Alternative Spring Break
Kean University Alternative Spring Break 2014
The Alternative Spring Break is an opportunity for volunteers to actively participate in the recovery of the Jersey Shore after Hurricane Sandy. It is an opportunity to share a meaningful experience with Kean University students as well as contemplate the role of volunteerism in today's society. Volunteers will be visiting one or more work sites to assist rebuilds of homes of low income, elderly and/or disabled victims of the storm. There will be a wide array of tasks, including but not limited to, debris removal, painting, sheet rock removal/installation or general labor tasks and operations.
Dates: Monday, March 10, 2014 through Friday, March 14, 2014
- Departure Time: 7:00 A.M. Monday, March 10, 2014 from Kean University
- Return Time: 12:00 P.M. Friday, March 14, 2014
Service Trip Cost: $50.00 - If you are selected to participate, you must submit payment by check or money order to the Center for Leadership and Service by 3:30 p.m. on Wednesday, March 5, 2014.
Service Location: Individual homes of low income, elderly and/or disabled families in Atlantic City
Lodging Location: Surrounding Atlantic City Area Hotel (More details to follow at group meeting)
Volunteers will be provided with transportation, lodging and food for the duration of the 4 night service experience.
Volunteer Activities: Students will be transported from the hotel to service sites in Atlantic City, New Jersey. The volunteer opportunities are physical in nature and may require heavy lifting and general labor.
Orientation Meeting:There will be a mandatory orientation meeting scheduled for Wednesday, March 5, 2014, at 3:30PM to review the plans for the Alternative Spring Break project in greater detail for all participants. If you are unable to attend the orientation meeting as a result of a schedule conflict, please contact us at the time you receive your participation confirmation.
Please note that participation in the Alternative Spring Break program requires utilizing Kean University provided transportation, lodging and remaining with the Kean University Alternative Spring Break group at all times. Participants are required to follow all safety instructions and guidelines. The Kean University Student Code of Conduct is in effect and applicable to the actions and behaviors of all students that participate.

Thank you for your interest in volunteering as a part of the Center for Leadership and Service's 2nd Alternate Spring Break.
Please complete this volunteer activity registrant form with your most up-to-date information so that we may better contact you if there are any changes/updates to the activity or other information that we would want to share with you. Please note, each individual volunteer must complete their own individual registration form due to the nature of the release and indemnification agreement.
This volunteer activity is limited in space. In the event that an activity becomes filled, we will add you to a "waiting list" and you will be contacted within 48-72 hours of the event if space becomes available.
If you are successfully registered for the 2014 Alternate Spring Break, you will receive a confirmation email/phone call from the Center for Leadership and Service. Until you recieve your confirmation, your registration is pending.
