The faculty of the HIM Program bring with them an extensive history of combined experience in the health information field. Both resident faculty have received awards and honors from the New Jersey Health Information Management Association and/or the American Health Information Management Association.

Barbara Manger, MPA, RHIA, CCS, FAHIMA has been the Chairperson of the HIM Program at Kean University at Kean University and is the Program Director of the program at UMDNJ as of Fall 2007.  She has been a member of the Kean HIM Program faculty since 1990. She came to Kean after having worked in the field for many years. Immediately prior to her employment at Kean, Prof. Manger was the Manager of Medical Records at the Summit Medical Group in Summit, NJ. She also held various positions in acute care which included Admissions Systems Director, DRG Coordinator and Assistant Director of Medical Records at Clara Maass Medical Center in Belleville, NJ and Assistant Director of Medical Records at St. Michaels Medical Center, Newark, NJ. Professor Manger holds a Masters in Public Administration from Seton Hall University and a Bachelor's in Management Science from St. Peter's College. She also has a post baccalaureate certification in Health Information Management from Kean University. Continued involvement in the New Jersey Health Information Management Association has always been an important part of Prof. Manger's professional life. As a member of NJHIMA since 1978, she has been an active Executive Board member for several years through both appointed and elected positions and including serving as President. For the past two years, Prof. Manger has held the position of Community Education Coordinator which coordinates and promotes the Personal Health Record Community Education Campaign within New Jersey.   She will leave this role to assume the elected position of Director/Delegate of NJHIMA (2007-2009).   In recognition of her accomplishments and dedication to the profession, Prof. Manger was received the Distinguished Member Award in 2002 and was granted fellowship status by AHIMA in 2004.  In addition to her responsibilities at the university, Prof. Manger has been an independent consultant in the HIM field for both coding and management. This consultancy enables her to keep in touch with those working in the profession and to ensure that classes are current and up to date.

Nadinia Davis, MBA, CIA, CPA, RHIA, FAHIMA came to the HIM Program in September 1999. Prior to this, she was the Chairperson of the Health Information Management Department at Berkeley College in West Paterson, New Jersey. She holds a Bachelors Degree in political science from Villanova University in Pennsylvania and an MBA with a concentration in accounting from Fairleigh Dickinson University in New Jersey. Prof. Davis began her career working in a variety of administrative capacities and entered the financial services industry in 1980. Upon completing her Masters degree, she joined the Corporate Audit Division of Merrill Lynch & Company. Prof. Davis rose to the position of Assistant Vice President there, at which point she decided to make a career change to health care, specifically health information management. She returned to school and obtained her post-baccalaureate certificate in health information management from Kean University. Prof. Davis has worked in a variety of capacities in acute care facilities. She has also been a coding consultant and a Director of Medical Records in a rehabilitation facility. Prof. Davis joined Berkeley College in 1996 for the purpose of developing their new health information management program and was with them for 3 ½ years before moving to Kean. Prof. Davis has spent her entire career in health information management lending her talents and expertise in a volunteer capacity on both the State and National level. She has served the New Jersey Health Information Management Association on multiple committees, as Treasurer, and as President, receiving their Distinguished Member award in 2000. She has served the American Health Information Management Association for four years on the Finance Committee, three years as a Director, and most recently on the Nominating Committee. In recognition of her accomplishments and dedication to the profession, Prof. Davis was granted fellowship status by AHIMA in 2004, the first New Jersey member to receive this distinction. Prof. Davis has authored a variety of books, chapters, and articles relating to health information management, including 'Introduction to Health Information Technology', for which she won the 2002 AHIMA Legacy Award.
