School of Communication, Media & Journalism

Welcome to the School of Communication, Media & Journalism (CMJ). The new School of CMJ at Kean University, provides students an opportunity to specialize in one of four major areas: Communication Studies, Media/Film, Journalism and Public Relations.  In each of these areas, students not only focus on their respective major, but also learn skills in:

•    problem solving            

•    team building

•    social media

•    multicultural communication

•    video and film production

•    listening

•    reporting

•    interviewing

•    public speaking

•    conflict management

•    critical and creative thinking.

The integration of Communication, Media and Journalism enables Kean’s students to push new boundaries in the exploration of human communication and to help them develop skills and make career choices that will exist into the next century.

CMJ students have an opportunity to gain practical expertise while working on the University’s student newspaper, The Tower, ( ) the campus radio station WKNJ ( ), as well as through the campus TV station.

Some Communication majors continue their studies after earning their B.A. to earn a Master’s degree in Communication Studies.

Kean also offers a Minor in Communication.

Students with a 3.3 G.P.A. or better will be invited to become members of Lambda Pi Eta, the national communication honor society, and/or AERho, the national broadcasting honor society.
