Welcome Back Program Mission Statement

The mission of the Welcome Back Program Steering Committee is to coordinate student programs and activities that will welcome Kean University residential and commuter students to campus life and a new academic year. The committee will also work to foster a sense of responsibility and commitment throughout the entire University community to take part in a unified effort to welcome new and returning students.

 

Welcome Back Program Goals

The goals of the Welcome Back Program are:

  • to provide access to information and resources that will promote personal and academic success, wellness and responsible decision-making;
  • to provide opportunities for meaningful interaction that will build and maintain relationships between students, faculty, staff and administrators; and
  • to build community and foster a sense of institutional pride and respect.

First-Year and Transfer Student Move-In

8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. - Residence Halls

Move-ins will take place on Wednesday, August 28, 2013 between 8:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. at students' respective residence halls. Please enter the campus via the Morris Avenue entrance; parking is available in the Vaughn-Eames Parking Lot. Students with last names that begin with A - L will be permitted to move in from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Students with the last names that begin with M - Z will be permitted to move in from 12:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. The Office of Residential Student Services (RSS) strongly encourages students to bring hand-trucks for move-ins. RSS will provide a limited number of moving carts at Vaughn-Eames.

Vaccine Day

9 a.m. to 2 p.m. - Health Services (Downs Hall)

Still need the mandatory immunizations or can't get the information required to complete your medical records? Come by Health Services and receive your required vaccines, including meningitis. There is a fee for each vaccine and health insurance is accepted.

11 A.M. TO 5 P.M. – RESIDENCE HALLS

Students and families can enjoy music and refreshments to help them stay energized while moving in.

Students will receive an overview of Residential Student Services and be introduced to the staff.

Mandatory presentation for first-year residents that includes such topics as consent, sexual violence and alcohol/drug use.

Game Room Activities & Karaoke

9:30 p.m. to 11 p.m. - UC Game Room

Take your pick to socialize, compete or sing a song- or do all three- in the University Center Game Room.

Basketball & Volleyball

9:30 p.m. to 11 p.m. - UC Courts/Sand Pit

Open to any number of teams and players. Those who lose two games are removed from the tournament.

Bookstore Social (for Freshman)

6:30 p.m. to 9 p.m. - Bookstore/UC Atrium

Students will learn the ins and outs of the college bookstore, including the difference between purchasing and renting books. Pizza and drinks will be provided. Freshman Students only.

First Year Fiesta

Social event for all first-year residents hosted by Hall Council.

Movie Night

Students can donate blood, register to be on the bone marrow registry, decorate shirts for the Breast Cancer Walk, sign up for Habitat for Humanity, Community Food Bank, Adopt a Park, etc.
