Campus Environmental, Health and Safety Department

Associate Director I

Under the direction of the Vice President of Facilities and Campus Planning, the Associate Director I manages the Campus Environmental, Health and Safety Department providing strategic leadership and tactical oversight to students, faculty and staff. The Associate Director I acts as the Campus Environmental, Health and Safety Officer in a leadership role directing assigned employees, contractors and consultants for various operational and project related responsibilities; provides training including organizing and managing the blood borne pathogen program; develops and implements safety and environmental standards, plans and operating procedures including managing the permit process; and performs additional duties as required.

Qualifications: Graduation from an accredited college with a Master’s degree required, preferably in Environmental Science, Engineering or related field. Four years of professional experience with direct involvement in safety and environmental programs required, a minimum of seven to ten years of experience preferred. Candidate must have knowledge of federal, state and local safety and environmental requirements; the ability to read and interpret environmental and safety codes and technical manuals; technical knowledge of building energy use and commissioning; and the ability to manage multiple improvement projects along with a background in environmental and safety operational compliance. CAMPUS POLICE

Public Safety Telecommunicator

Under direction in 911 Call Center in a State College, receives and responds to telephone or other electronic requests for emergency assistance including law enforcement, fire, medical or other emergency services, provides first aid and CPR medical response information to calls for medical assistance from students, faculty or others using the college facility for programs or a variety of campus events and/or dispatches appropriate units to response sites; does other related duties as required.

Qualifications: One (1) year experience in work involving the receiving, transmitting, and relaying of video display and/or radio messages, and in the receiving, relaying, and recording of complaints and requests for emergency assistance which shall have included the use of video display, data processing, automatic number identification, automatic location identification, switching equipment, and other computer oriented equipment.

Appointees to positions at Public Safety Answering Points and at some Public Safety Dispatch Points must achieve training and certification by the Office of Emergency Telecommunications Services (OETS) in the Department of Law and Public Safety as required by NJAC 13:81-2.

Kean University is the largest producer of teachers in the State of New Jersey. Responsibilities: The Dean is expected to provide leadership for the College of Education in the areas of teaching, research, and university and community service, and to work closely with faculty in curricular matters, such as the development of strong and innovative academic programs. The Dean is also expected to work closely with the Dean of the Nathan Weiss Graduate College to coordinate the implementation of a new doctoral program in Urban Leadership, pending approval by the NJ Commission on Higher Education. The Dean reports to the Provost/Vice President for Academic Affairs.

Qualifications: The successful candidate will possess an earned doctorate and a record of distinguished academic achievement appropriate for possible appointment at the rank of Professor in a department in the College. A minimum of eight years of experience in a higher education environment combining academic instruction and administration, or its equivalent is required. Other qualifications include: a record of distinguished leadership in the educational sector; a demonstrated ability to lead through collaborative and shared decision making and the ability to sustain a strong and collegial relationship with faculty, staff, students and administrators; familiarity with NCATE accreditation; a successful record in budget development and strategic planning; a successful record of grant acquisition; an ability to balance advocacy for the College with the needs of the wider University community; and a demonstrated ability to develop collaborative programs and partnerships with local and regional educational organizations.

Ronald E. McNair Program: Managing Assistant Director III

Under the direction of the Dean, the Managing Assistant Director manages the Ronald E. McNair Program, designed to prepare students from disadvantaged backgrounds for doctoral studies through research and other scholarly activity. Responsibilities include managing all day-to-day operations for the McNair Program, including the recruitment of undergraduate college students; budget; supervision and coordination of staff; development and implementation of program goals, policies and procedures; and additional duties as required. This position is grant funded and contingent upon the availability of supporting grant funds.

Qualifications: Graduation from an accredited college with a Bachelor’s degree and two years of experience managing a grant funded program in an institution of higher education required. Master’s degree and experience in undergraduate and graduate programming for low income, first generation college students preferred. Exceptional Educational Opportunities (EEO) Program

Director II

Under the direction of the Associate Provost/Associate Vice President for Academic Affairs, the Director organizes, plans, and directs the Exceptional Educational Opportunities (EEO) Program, the Educational Opportunity Fund Program at Kean University. The EEO Program is designed to provide higher education access, financial assistance and academic and personal support services to educationally and economically disadvantaged students in New Jersey. FACILITIES DEPARTMENT

Grounds Worker

Under the direction of the Associate Supervisor, Head Grounds Worker, and/or Assistant Head Grounds Worker, responsibilities include cutting grass using heavy duty machines, litter control, mulching, tree trimming, watering plants, planting, flower bed maintenance, and snow removal, with a strong focus on gardening. Responsibilities involve semiskilled physical labor and the ability to properly use all gardening equipment, materials, tools, and supplies including lifting up to fifty (50) pounds. Will attend in-service training and participate in University quality and process improvement initiatives. Position is forty (40) hours per week with variable hours, and requires a flexible schedule. Salary: $26,913.16. A comprehensive benefits package is also being offered.

Qualifications: One (1) year of grounds work experience is required. Appointees will be required to possess a driver's license valid in New Jersey. Experience in a university/school setting or hospital setting is preferred. HS diploma or equivalency is preferred. Candidate must have the ability to read, write, speak, understand or communicate in English sufficiently to perform the duties of the position.

FACILITIES DEPARTMENT

Operating Engineer Heating and Air Conditioning

Working under the direction of the Chief Operating Engineer, Engineer in Charge, and/or Management, responsibilities include maintaining and operating various HVAC systems throughout the University campus, including package units, split systems, geothermal systems, absorption units, and various heating systems. Responsibilities involve physical labor and the ability to properly use all related equipment, materials, tools, ladders, and supplies including lifting up to eighty (80) pounds. Will attend in-service training and participate in University quality and process improvement initiatives.

Position is forty40) hours per week with variable hours, requires a flexible schedule, and will include weekend assignment as well.

Salary: $39,295.28. A comprehensive benefits package is also being offered.

Qualifications: Two (2) years of experience in the adjustment, repair, operation, and maintenance of air conditioning and heating plants and auxiliary equipment. An Operating Engineer’s License of appropriate grade and type (Blue Seal) issued by the New Jersey Department of Labor is required. A driver’s license valid in New Jersey is required. Applicant must have the ability to read, write, speak, understand and communicate in English sufficiently to perform the duties of the position. Experience in a university/school setting or hospital setting is preferred. HS diploma or equivalency is preferred. Strong electrical and plumbing skills preferred.

Institutional Advancement

Director III

Under the direction of the Vice President of Institutional Advancement, the Director III will be responsible for managing and coordinating all bookkeeping and financial record keeping tasks in accordance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP), Federal and State laws and internal control procedures for the Kean University Foundation. Responsibilities include all phases and functions of accounting: accounts receivable, accounts payable, cash receipts, cash disbursements, monthly journal entries, account reconciliation, payroll functions and preparation of financial statements; maintaining endowment market values, charitable gift annuity and scholarship financial records; preparing monthly project and financial reports; supervising staff; and performing additional duties as required.

Qualifications: Graduation from an accredited college with a Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance or related field and a minimum of three years of experience in accounting related work required. Senior Development Officer (Director III)

Corporations and Foundations Development Officer

The Division of Institutional Advancement at Kean University seeks a full-time professional to research, plan, write, package and submit grant proposals to private organizations, corporations, and foundations, as well as identify and solicit support from the aforementioned through site visits to and follow-up communication. Working independently or in collaboration with faculty and the administration, the Corporations and Foundations Development Officer must be able to secure more than $1 million per year in grants.

The new staff member will report to the Vice President for Institutional Advancement. Responsibilities will include grant proposal planning and development in support of the University Foundation, as well as seeking, meeting and following up with prospective funders. Tasks include the identification of appropriate funding sources; needs assessment research and analysis; meeting externally with corporations and foundations to establish and cultivate relationships; planning project proposals in collaboration with prospective project directors regarding funding needs and ideas; and writing, editing, reviewing, packaging and submitting grant proposals. Candidate must be able to make presentations to corporate CEO's and Foundations' Board of Directors, and secure funding to allow for the construction of facilities, create new university initiatives, and provide scholarships to students. Equally important, the candidate must be able to secure funding from sources not previously identified by the university to support the arts, science and technology, human rights and business programs.

Qualifications: Bachelor's degree required, Master's degree in a related field preferred. Three years of experience in grant proposal writing and funding source identification is required, additional experience is preferred. Prior experience in corporate giving, fundraising, and solicitation also required. Knowledge of needs analysis, planning, and program development in the private sector is important.

Senior Development Officer (Director III)

Kean University, the third largest public university in New Jersey (13,000 students and 65,000 alumni) is seeking an experienced development professional. The university is in the leadership phase of a comprehensive capital campaign and is currently expanding the staff in preparation for the public launch in June 2007. With a number of centers of excellence and new facilities, Kean is undergoing a major transformation.

Under the direction of the Director of Individual Giving of the Kean University Foundation, the Senior Development Officer is accountable for the identification, cultivation, solicitation and stewardship of donors capable of making significant gifts ($25,000 or more).

Responsibilities include managing a portfolio of prospects (200+) and an active cultivation, solicitation and stewardship schedule (minimum 40% time spent on visits) with prospects and donors; participating in developing appropriate prospect cultivation strategies; determining potential giving opportunities and optimal gift levels; maintaining knowledge of planned giving arrangements; managing specific special projects as required; and performing additional duties as required.

Reader

Kean University is seeking a Reader that will work with a faculty member. The Reader will read aloud to the faculty member various printed materials and/or information from a computer screen that cannot be read by the adaptive computer equipment and software. The reader does not interpret, re-word, or explain the materials. The Reader will take dictation when the adaptive computer equipment and software cannot do so.

Position is temporary and filled on a semester to semester basis. Up to a maximum of 15 hours per week.

Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s degree preferred. Experience in field of Psychology and/or college level coursework in Psychology is preferred.
