Participants in the pre-service workshop may complete the four hours of classroom observation prior to attending the workshop. If you are unable to complete the observation before the workshop, we will hold your certificate of completion until you are able to hand in the completed observation form--this is not a problem. You can observe at a public or charter school of your choice. Consider schools with which you have an established personal connection or professional relationship. When seeking opportunities, be sure to remind school staff that your observation is a New Jersey Department of Education requirement. There are two documents below. The first explains the observation assignment and has some questions to help guide your observation. Be prepared to discuss your observations at the workshop. The second document is a letter of introduction that will verify that you have completed the observation. Print out a copy and take it with you to your observation in order to obtain the appropriate signatures.
Please note: You can complete this observation prior to the workshop and bring the signed letter in on Friday afternoon (of the workshop) or you can send the signed letter in afterwards--it doesn't matter--but you will not be given the certificate of completion until the observation is completed.
Here is the Observation Letter/Form necessary for your observation. Please bring it in on the Friday of your workshop filled in and signed.
