Kean University’s Earth Week is Coming!
Be a part of it from April 20 to 25.

Events held on campus and in the community throughout the week will provide an opportunity for students, faculty and staff to help care for nature and raise environmental awareness. If you would like to get involved, contact IUES@ kean.edu or dshebitz@kean.edu

Monday, April 20
Field Day of races and games on Cougar’s Green and outside the Cougar's Den. There will be a BBQ for participants (Rain location: Harwood Arena)

Global Warming Seminar 3:15 p.m. to 5 p.m. in the UC Little Theater, presented by Connie and Greg Mattison from the Climate Project.

Tuesday, April 21
East Campus: Elizabeth River Clean-Up 9:30 -11 a.m., noon -1:45 p.m. AND 2 – 3:30 p.m. Help Union County Parks and Recreation clean up the Elizabeth River from East campus to Conant Park. Meet at the East campus bridge.

University Center: Vendor Fair 10 a.m - 2 p.m. See the GM Fuel Cell car and visit Earth week’s “Green Store” in the lobby of University Center (UC) with technology, health and food product vendors.

Seminar by Chris Colquit from GM Fuel Cell Activities Division. 2 - 3 p.m. UC Little Theater

Wednesday, April 22 - EARTH DAY
Throughout campus, cougar walk will be lined with recycling displays and informational posters. In addition, entertainment, activities, alternative energy, recycling, nature preservation organizations will be on campus at the University Center. Look out for free Earth Day give-aways. 10 a.m. - 4 p.m.

Participate in competitions for prizes: First, take part in the Earth Week Poster contest—display your organization or club’s ideas on climate preservations, energy renewal, waste reduction, water preservation or other environmental sustainability effort. Second, you can display a photograph that you took illustration New Jersey environments (the good, the bad, or the ugly) in a photography competition. Third, complete Kean’s annual Earth Week Survey.

Thursday, April 23
Science Celebration Day at Kean University and Science Scavenger Hunt. 10 a.m.– 2 p.m. Local school districts visit Kean University and meet with students and faculty in science disciplines to learn through hands-on activities about the various fields. Participate in the Science Walk and follow a path of discover to explore science, math and technology on campus.

Children attending day care at Kean University will work with professors to learn about plants. They will plant seeds in the greenhouse. 10:30 a.m. - noon

Seminar by Dr. Som Mitra of NJIT on solar energy and by Will Heyninger from Kean Geology/ Meteorology Department on wind energy. 3:15 - 4:30 p.m. UC Little Theater

Friday, April 24
Tree Restoration Project at Liberty State Park. 8:30 a.m.- noon Help keep the Park clean by removing litter and by planting, pruning and mulching the many trees found in Liberty State Park. The bus leaves from the main parking lot in front of Wilkin’s Theater at 8:30 a.m.

Watershed Boat Ride 1:30 p.m. - 4 p.m. Kean students can go on a boat ride with the US Army Corps of Engineers and learn about the Elizabeth River/Arthur Kill Watershed. Meet at the main parking lot in front of the Science Building at 1:15 for transportation.

Saturday, April 25
Kean Spruce Up Day 10 a.m. Plant flowers, remove invasive plants, and clean up our campus. Meet at the University Center. Be a part of sprucing up the Residence Halls and plant some flowers and vegetables in a garden.
