Summer 2008 Financial Aid Information

General Information

The Office of Financial Aid provides a variety of grant, loan, and work-study opportunities to assist you with financing the cost of attending summer classes. Available sources of financial aid include:

  • Federal Work Study
  • Federal Direct Student Loans
  • Federal Perkins Loans (on availability basis)
  • Federal Graduate PLUS Loans (Graduate students only)
  • Parent Loans for Undergraduate Students
  • NJ Educational Opportunity Fund (EEO students only)
(*funding may be limited, students affiliated with EEO, should contact that office for funding information)
  • Private Alternative Loans
(*students must complete the summer aid application as well as the alternative loan application)

Students are advised that availability of Federal Student Direct Loans for the summer period may be limited if a student has used loan funds during the previous academic year. For example, if a student used their maximum eligibility of $3500 as a freshman during the 2007-2008 academic year, the student may not have remaining eligibility during the 2008 summer sessions. This is because the summer is treated as part of the 2007-2008 academic year for purposes of a student loan.

Application Information

The following application must be filed by the priority deadline date of April 4, 2008 for notification prior to the bill due date of April 19, 2008. Applications received after the deadline date of April 4, 2008 may not receive a notice of eligibility before the billing deadline and are responsible for paying the bill.

1. File a 2007-2008 FAFSA, if you have not already done so, online at www.fafsa.ed.gov or complete a paper version of the FAFSA.

2. File a Kean University 2008 Summer Financial Aid Application.

3. You must register at least half-time (6 credits between Sessions I and II) in order to be considered for financial aid for the summer sessions.

4. Students who register early for summer classes will receive an award letter in the mail. Students who complete the summer application but do not register during early registration will receive an estimated notification of award eligibility.

Students interested in applying may access the Summer Financial Aid Application on KeanWISE or in person at the One Stop Service Center. If you need additional information you may contact the office at (908) 737-3190 or via email finaid@kean.edu.
