Honorary Degree Recipient
Maxine Lane is a 1978 graduate of Kean University with a degree in social work. She decided to pursue her degree after working as a secretary in a social work agency and in the Monmouth County Welfare Department. "I like people," she once explained, and so she decided to come to Kean to learn more about helping those in need of support.
That generosity of spirit led Maxine and her late husband, Jack, to make one of the largest gifts ever given to Kean University, an estimated $6 million. In recognition of that extraordinary contribution, Kean University named the Center for Academic Success in honor of Maxine and Jack Lane in 2009. In the years since her graduation, she has never forgotten how Kean University helped shape her life. "Every course and everything that happened to me at Kean was special," she has said.
