The
cornerstone of the Institute for Foreign Service & Diplomacy is to
assist Kean University students secure internships that will prepare them
for successful careers in international affairs. With its metropolitan
location and proximity to Washington D.C., Kean University is situated
in a prime area for internship opportunities.
In each year of the grant, the Institute is able to provide up to 20 students
with a stipend while they are employed in relevant internships. These
students, coined "Institute Scholars," must commit to attending
the Institute s other career training activities and to taking the
U.S. Foreign Service Written Exam. Students interested in becoming an
Institute Scholar should contact the Project Manager.
Students are encouraged to frequently access the Institutes internship
database. Students are also notified about opportunities via email.
State Department Internship
Program
Students are strongly encouraged to pursue internship opportunities with
the U.S. State Department. Follow the link for "Student Programs"
on the State Departments career page, www.careers.state.gov,
for more information.
Students should be aware, however, that deadlines for State Department
internships fall well in advance of the commencement of employment:
Spring Internships - July 1
Summer Internships - November 1
Fall Internships - March 1
Be sure to arrange to meet with the Project Manager to review your application
package, which includes an application form, statement of interest, and
transcript.
UN Student Volunteer / Internship Opportunities
Kean University is very fortunate to be located within commuting distance
of the United Nations headquarters. Students interested in internships
at the United Nations should visit its website, www.un.org,
to familiarize themselves with the UNs departments, divisions, and
agencies. For information on possible placements, please contact the Institutes
Project Manager.
The Washington Center for Internships & Academic Seminars
For students involved with the Institute interested in securing an internship
in the nations capitol, the Washington Center offers excellent placements
in international affairs for students from all majors. In addition to
providing housing, the Washington Center coordinates with the Political
Science department to offer academic credit. For more details, contact
