The Department of Foreign Languages, Literatures, and Cultures offers courses that explore culture and civilization, grammar, history, literature, and related areas. These areas of study provide excellent background for additional language acquisition, advanced professional study, and a variety of careers. The Department offers a B.A. in Spanish; a B.A. in Spanish with a Teacher Certification Option; a Minor in Spanish; a Minor in French; and courses in Chinese, French, Italian, German, Hebrew, and Portuguese. A Minor in Italian studies is being developed, as is a Masters in Spanish Teaching (MAT). The Department houses a contemporary, multimedia language-learning laboratory that supports all language instruction, with special emphasis on interactive CD-ROM media.

The Department also offers a number of civilization, culture, and literature courses in English. These courses are designated with the letters FL in this catalog.

Study abroad programs, as well as summer travel/learn courses are also available through departmental programs and the Center for International Studies and Programs.
