Spanish Piano
Professor Visits Kean University
UNION, N.J. Spanish piano professor Guillermo González
will be performing at Kean University on Tuesday, October 15, at 7 p.m.
in the University Center Little Theatre, 1000 Morris Avenue, Union, N.J.
Admission is free.
Born on the island of Tenerife, Spain, González started music
studies at the Tenerife Conservatory and continued with professor José
Cubiles at the Madrid Conservatory. He won prizes at the Milan, Vercelli
(Viotti), Jaen and Tenerife Piano Competitions.
González has been piano professor at the Royal Music Conservatory
in Madrid since 1974 and is a visiting professor of Melbourne University,
Australia. He has played recitals and concerts throughout the world (Germany,
Australia, USA, France, Mexico, Peru, Switzerland, Venezuela, the former
USSR, etc.), cooperating with orchestras such as Strasbourg, Dresden,
Liverpool, Scottish Chamber and with the most prominent Spanish orchestras.
His recording, Piano Works by Teobaldo Power, was awarded the Great National
Prize for Recording in 1980. He has recorded the piano works of E. Halffter,
A. Scriabin, Falla and Garcia Abril. In 1996, he interpreted a live recording
of the Suite Iberia by I. Albéniz for the Radio European Union
(U.E.R.). In 1998, he recorded the complete Suite Iberia and the two Suites
Españolas by I. Albéniz for Naxos.
