FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Kean University to Host Spring Bilingual Conference for Educators UNION, N.J The Department of Instruction and Educational Leadership (IEL) and the Center for Bilingual Education of Kean University will present Educational Implications that Impact Bilingual and ESL Instruction, the 13th Spring Conference Bilingual Center (SCBC) conference for educators of early childhood, elementary, bilingual and English-as-a-Second-Language (ESL) education, on Friday, May 2, at 7:30 a.m. in the University Center Little Theatre, 1000 Morris Avenue, Union, N.J. Dr. Maria Torres-Guzmán, associate professor of bilingual education in the Department of International and Transcultural Studies at Teachers College, Columbia University, N.Y., will be the keynote speaker. Attendees will have the opportunity to participate in two workshops, conducted by numerous professionals. Dr. M. Brandon Doubek of Keans IEL department will present Exploring the Connections of Art and Culture in Education: Theory and Practice, Questions and Answers. Closing words will be given by Dr. Annette López, director of Keans Center for Bilingual Education. The conference, sponsored by Project Bilingual TEACHER (Teachers, ESL, Administrators, and Counselors for Higher Education Reform), Project BECA (Bilingual Education Career Advancement), and Project TELL (Teaching English Language Learners), will focus on educating immigrant students. Registration fee of $40 is due no later than Thursday, April 17. Educators participating in the SCBC conference will receive four credit hours towards professional development.
