Kean University Single-Session Workshops Help Improve
Job-Search Skills
UNION, N.J. – Prepare
for a positive economic turnaround by attending one or more single-session
workshops in résumé-writing and job-interview techniques
to be held on Monday, July 14, and Monday, July 21, from 6:30 to 8:30
p.m. at Kean University, 1000 Morris Avenue, Union, N.J.
The workshops are designed
for people who recently experienced a layoff, those who believe they
may face a job loss, or those who wish to upgrade their status in a
chosen field or change direction and start an entirely new career path.
New graduates will also benefit from the workshops. The seminars provide
participants with significant opportunities to address their own, personal
concerns. Considerable dialogue is encouraged to enable participants
to learn from their peers as well as from the instructor.
Make Your Résumé
and Cover Letter Work for You will
review the mechanics of writing a résumé and cover letter
that are clear, concise and highlight one’s individuality. Participants
will learn to balance marketability with accuracy and will become familiar
with the dos and don’ts of good editing practices, layout, professional
printing strategies and electronic résumés. This workshop
will be held on July 14. Pre-registration is required for CES 102, Section
016. The fee is $23.
Developing Confidence
for the Job Interview will enable
participants to develop the ability to promote themselves effectively
on an employment interview. They will learn techniques to prepare, thus
helping to ease the stress of the experience and allowing for optimal
performance. Participants will learn to conduct preliminary research,
the importance of networking, handling “trick” questions,
types of questions the interviewee needs to ask, salary negotiation
and how to close the interview to one’s advantage. Role-playing
will be included as time permits. This workshop will be held on July
21. Pre-registration is required for CES 103, Section 016. The fee is
$23.
Special arrangements for
people with disabilities can be made upon request. Be sure to bring
business cards and brochures for networking purposes. For more information
or to register, please call the Kean’s Department of Continuing
