Kean University Hosts Summer Sports Camps for Kids
UNION, N.J. Kean Universitys Department of Athletics is offering a score of summer sports camps for kids. Intended for children ages 3 to 18, each camp offers a wide range of instruction for boys and girls, allows participants the opportunity to be trained by some of the finest collegiate coaches in the region and to experience the exceptional recreational facilities available at the University. All sessions will be held at the Universitys main campus at 1000 Morris Avenue in Union, N.J.
Learn a lifetime sport at the University Tennis Academy, running for five-day sessions from Monday, June 30 through Friday, August 1, from 9 a.m. to noon. Open to children ages 3 through 17, each workshop provides beginner, advanced beginner, intermediate and tournament-training levels of instruction. Lessons focus on terms, strokes, scoring, game situations and teamwork. The University staff provides a high-energy learning environment and a positive and fun experience. There is a fee of $110 for the first week and $135 for each subsequent week. Keans baseball coaching staff will provide a three-day pitching and hitting Cougar Baseball Camp, beginning Monday, July 14, from 9 a.m. to noon. Open to children ages 8 through 18, participants of this seminar will develop and fine-tune the mechanics and key elements needed for exceptional pitching and hitting. There is a fee of $125 for the three-day session. Come have fun and learn at the five-day Cougar Track and Field Camp, from Monday, July 14 through Friday, July 18, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Open to children ages 12 through 18, this workshop will enhance participants skills in various levels of running, hurdle, and field events. In addition, boys and girls will learn about the opportunities of the college experience and meet many elite college athletes as they demonstrate and discuss life skills, goal setting, competition and more. There is a fee of $150 for the five sessions. Learn the fastest games on two feet at the six-day Cougar Field Hockey/Lacrosse Camp, from Monday, July 21 through Saturday, July 26, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. This exciting day camp/clinic, open to girls grades K through 12 and boys grades K through 6, will provide beginners with an introduction to basic skills and techniques and teach advanced player strategies and competitive play. There is a fee of $135 for a partial week including one sport, or $245 for the full week including both sports. Focus on the FUNdamentals of volleyball at the Cougar Volleyball Camp, running for one-week sessions from Monday, July 28 through Friday, August 1, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Open to girls ages 12 through 18, the camp will teach the basics of forearm passing, serving, setting, spiking, blocking and digging, through skills demonstration, practice and drills that emphasize fun and learning. Each day will consist of a morning practice session, a lunch break, swimming time and an afternoon session for competition. In addition, the benefits of sports for girls will be discussed, including opportunities to learn life skills, leadership, teamwork, goal setting, understanding competition and more. There is a fee of $150 for each one-week session. Join Kean for a world-class soccer experience at a one-week session of Cougar Soccer School, from Monday, July 21 through Friday, August 15, from 8:45 a.m. to 3:45 p.m. Open to children ages 6 to 16, the workshop will discuss how the simple aspects of play bring about the beauty and exhilaration of the worlds game. There is a fee of $95 for one week of half sessions, and $195 for one week of full sessions.
