Carl Rosa Opera Company to Perform The Mikado at Kean
UNION, N.J. London’s acclaimed Carl Rosa Opera Company will
present a sparkling and lavish recreation of Gilbert & Sullivan’s
original 1885 Savoy production of The Mikado on Friday, February
27, at 7:30 p.m. in Kean University’s Wilkins Theatre, 1000 Morris
Avenue, Union, N.J.
As one of the Gilbert & Sullivan’s most popular comic operettas,
The Mikado delivers a satiric look at love triangles and political
hypocrisy in the fairy-tale setting of ancient Japan. A project four years
in the making, Carl Rosa Opera Company used Gilbert’s authenticated
prompt book as its source for direction, staging and choreography and
presents the original antique costumes, now restored to their full glory
and recently seen on the screen in Mike Leigh’s Oscar-winning film,
Topsy-Turvy. This production is guaranteed to delight your eyes
and ears – all while tickling your funny bone.
Tickets are $25 for the public; $19 for seniors and alumni; and $15 for
students and children. Black-and-white and color photographs are available
upon request. For further information, to order tickets, or request a
brochure, call the Wilkins Theatre Box Office at 908-737-SHOW (7469).
