Kean University Launches New Program
to Fund Faculty and Student Research

UNION, N.J. – The Kean University Foundation has launched two new research-funding opportunities; one for faculty members and one for students. Both programs will be administered by the Office of Research and Sponsored Programs (ORSP).

The Faculty Research Fund is yet another competitive program that has been developed for the purpose of advancing faculty research, scholarship and creativity at Kean University. Applications and guidelines may be found by logging onto the ORSP Web site at and clicking on “Research.”

Through the Student Research Fund, all full-time enrolled Kean undergraduate and graduate students may submit proposals for the purpose of attaining funding toward a specific research project. This link can be accessed by logging onto the ORSP Web site and clicking on “Student Resources.”

Dr. Toufic Hakim, director of the Office of Research and Sponsored Programs, believes that both programs will significantly enrich the research environment at Kean University. “Success begets success. However, we need to nurture it at the beginning of the research cycle with time and dollars,” he said. “This is an initially small-scale effort which we hope will go far and complement Released Time for Research/Untenured Faculty Research Initiative as well as faculty/travel support, in helping us energize scholarly research and creativity on our campus.”

Faculty members are encouraged to consider and take advantage of these funding opportunities with their students when appropriate. For more information about either program, please contact ORSP at extension 7-3360 or via e-mail at
