Trinity Irish Dance Company Steps to Kean University

UNION, N.J. – They leap, they step-dance super fast, their arms and legs move in polyrhythmic combinations as if independent from the rest of their bodies – and they entertained audiences with innovative Irish dancing long before Michael Flatley’s Riverdance popularized its techniques. We are talking about the members of the Trinity Irish Dance Company that will grace the Wilkins Theatre at Kean University, 1000 Morris Avenue, Union, N.J., on Sunday, March 7, at 7:30 p.m.

Founded in Chicago in 1990, Trinity pushed the boundaries of traditional competitive Irish dance and created a new art form. Under the guidance of Artistic Director Mark Howard, this uniquely Irish-American company uses Irish movement as an instrument and a metaphor, crossing dance and cultural boundaries in significant ways. Against the background of specially commissioned live music, Howard juxtaposes aerial grace with hard-driving percussive power and lightening-fast agility. The result is a surprisingly contemporary, thoroughly engaging vision referred to as “a vibrant blaze of movement” by The Chicago Tribune.

Trinity has met with critical acclaim throughout the world and has appeared in some of the most distinguished venues as well as in feature films by Disney, Touchstone Pictures and Universal Studios. Recently, the company received an Emmy® Award for their appearance on the PBS special World Stage.

Tickets are $25 for the public; $19 for seniors and alumni; and $15 for students and children. Black-and-white and color photographs are available upon request. For further information, to order tickets, or request a brochure, call the Wilkins Theatre Box Office at 908-737-SHOW (7469).
