The Catskill Klezmorim to Perform at Kean University
UNION, N.J. – The Jewish Faculty and Staff Association of Kean University will host the Catskill Klezmorim on Sunday, March 28, at 2 p.m. in Wilkins Theatre, 1000 Morris Avenue, Union, N.J. With their own contemporary flair, the group explores the rich heritage of Jewish folk music, revisiting the vibrant and soulful sound that was passed down from generations and eventually found its way to America via the great wave of immigration at the turn of the 20th century. The music includes influences of Russian folk songs, Rumanian Gypsy violin and the cantorial style of the Hebrew worship service, as well as an incorporation of Yiddish lyrics, Israeli dances, traditional sing-alongs, and music of the Sephardim. Tickets are $15 for the general public; $11 for senior citizens, faculty, staff and alumni; and $9 for students and children. For more information, call Dr. Davida Schuman at (908) 737-3934. To reserve a seat, call the Box Office at 908-737-SHOW (7469).
