Kean University to Host Spring Bilingual Conference for Educators
UNION, N.J. – The Department of Instruction and Educational Leadership (IEL) and the Center for Bilingual Education of Kean University will present Professional Development Workshops for Creative Teaching, the 14th Spring Conference Bilingual Center (SCBC) conference for educators of early-childhood, elementary, bilingual and English-as-a-Second-Language (ESL) education, on Friday, April 30, from 7:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. in the University Center Little Theatre, 1000 Morris Avenue, Union, N.J.
The keynote address, titled New Challenges for the Educational System in the State of New Jersey, will be presented by professor Fred Carrigg, special assistant to the New Jersey Commissioner of Education for Urban Literacy and director of Reading First. Dr. Lily Chen-Hafteck, music-education coordinator of Kean’s Department of Music, will present a lecture, titled Reflecting on the Goals of Education: The Role of Music in the Comprehensive Curriculum, and Dr. Mark Terenzi, chair of the music department, will direct a performance by the Kean University Chorale. In addition, attendees will have the opportunity to participate in two break-out workshops of their choice, conducted by professionals from various academic constituencies.
Registration fee of $45, which includes continental breakfast, conference
materials and lunch, is due no later than Thursday, April 15. Educators
participating in the SCBC conference will receive four credit hours toward
