Kean University to Host Forum on Preventing Child Abuse UNION, N.J. –All are invited to attend a free forum, titled Protecting Our Children. Take Action: Recognize, Reach Out, Refer, on Wednesday, April 21, at 6 p.m. in Kean University’s Little Theatre, University Center, 1000 Morris Avenue, Union, N.J. The keynote speaker is Dr. Janet Rosenzweig, executive director of Prevent Child Abuse – New Jersey (PCA-NJ), who will give a presentation about the problem of child abuse and neglect and encourage discussion about the most effective tools to help communities and families keep young people safe from harm. Founded in 1979, PCA-NJ is an affiliate of Prevent Child Abuse America, a national coordinating body for chapters in 38 states. Its mission is to eliminate physical, sexual and emotional child abuse and neglect. “As leaders in education, we believe it is important to create
opportunities to discuss the prevention of child abuse,” said Ann
MacVicar, director of the Kean University Child Care Center, who is also
a PCA-NJ board member. “With 40,000 cases of abuse reported each
year to the New Jersey Division of Youth and Family Services, I hope this
event will facilitate educators, parents and communities as they work
to reverse this heartbreaking trend.”
