FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Kean University Hosts Summer Sports Camps for Kids UNION, N.J. In what has become an annual rite of summer, Kean University’s Department of Athletics is offering a score of summer sports camps for kids, including instruction in football, soccer, lacrosse and volleyball. Intended for children and teens ages 3 to 18, each camp offers a wide range of instruction for boys and girls, allowing participants the opportunity to be trained by some of the finest collegiate coaches in the region and to experience the exceptional recreational facilities available at the University. All sessions will be held at the University’s main campus at 1000 Morris Avenue in Union, N.J. The Cougar Soccer School will hold a 7-A-Side Summer Soccer League on consecutive Tuesdays and Thursdays, from June 15 through August 5. This instructional soccer league will feature a high-school division and a men’s open division, who will play on Tuesday and Thursday evenings beginning at 6 p.m., respectively. There will be a seven-game minimum and a cup-championship game at the end of the season. Per-team fee is $765 for the season, plus a fee of $11 per team, per game, for the referee. The five-day Football Team Camp, to be held from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Monday, July 5 through Friday, July 9, and from Monday, July 12, through Friday, July 16, will consist of high-school football players performing individual, team and group-practice exercises. During these sessions, teams will be allowed to utilize their individual systems in an intensive atmosphere, while performing 7-on-7 drills against other participating teams. A maximum of five high-school teams will be allotted each week. A per-camper rate of $250 per week applies. An excellent way for high schools to compete against the finest teams
in the state, the Cougar Classic 7-on-7 Football Shootout is
a one-day passing tournament to be held on Saturday, July 10, from 7:30
a.m. to 5 p.m. Open to high-school teams only, this all-day tourney will
utilize nine 50-yard playing fields, and each team is guaranteed five
games. Designed to help young student-athletes improve their basic football
skills and learn more about the game, complete game rules will be included

Learn the fastest games on two feet at the week-long Cougar Field Hockey/Lacrosse Camp, from Sunday, July 18 through Saturday, July 24, from 9 a.m. to noon. This exciting and instructional sports clinic, open to girls grades K through 12 and boys grades K through 6, will provide beginners with an introduction to basic skills and techniques and teach advanced-player strategies and competitive play. Camp for Girls, running for two five-day sessions from Monday, July
26, through Friday, July 30, and Monday, August 2, through Friday, August
6, from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Open to girls and teens ages 12 through 18,
the camp will teach the basics of forearm passing, serving, setting, spiking,
blocking and digging, through skills demonstration, practice and drills
that emphasize fun and learning. Each day will consist of a morning practice
session, a lunch break, swimming time and an afternoon session for competition.
In addition, the benefits of sports for young women will be discussed,
including opportunities to learn life skills, leadership, teamwork, goal
setting, understanding competition and more. Per-camper fee is $150 for
