Summer Leadership Institute at Kean University
UNION, N.J. Kean University will hold a Summer Leadership
Institute, titled The Principal’s Role in Bridging the Achievement
Gap, on Tuesday, July 20, from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., and Wednesday, July
21, from 8 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., in Kean Hall at 1000 Morris Avenue, Union,
N.J.
Presented by the New Jersey Teacher Quality Enhancement Consortium (NJTQEC),
the Educational Leadership Department and Kean’s College of Education,
the program will feature speakers Dr. Ron Ferguson, associate professor
of public policy at Harvard University, and Charlotte Danielson, author
of Enhancing Student Achievement: A Framework for School Improvement.
A special reception and dinner on July 20, from 4:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.,
will conclude the first day’s events, with honored guest Gordon
McInnis, assistant commissioner of education for the state of New Jersey.
In addition to the speeches by special guests, the institute will include
facilitated discussion groups and special breakout sessions on subjects
such as changing school culture, teacher observation to improve instruction
and meeting the needs of bilingual students. Attendees may earn 15 professional-development
hours. The registration fee is $150 for the two-day institute, which includes
dinner. For those who wish to attend the dinner only, the cost is $35.
