FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Premiere Stages Seeks Scripts
from New Jersey Playwrights UNION, N.J. –Premiere Stages, the new Actors’ Equity Association (AEA) theatre program at Kean University, is currently accepting play submissions for the Premiere Stages Play Festival from professional playwrights born or currently residing in New Jersey, as well as in the surrounding areas of New York, Connecticut and Pennsylvania. Those individuals selected to participate in the festival will receive a cash award and a public reading of their work in the Murphy-Dunn Theatre at Kean University. Plays may also be selected for a weeklong workshop in June or a fully produced AEA production in July in Kean’s Wilkins Theatre. “We are looking for plays that offer fresh perspectives on contemporary
issues,” said John Wooten, producing artistic director of Premiere
Stages. “We invite playwrights and patrons from New Jersey and the
surrounding metropolitan areas to join us in encouraging and developing
original work for the stage.” The Premiere Stages Play Festival
will coincide with a playwriting class for Kean University students, which
will culminate with public readings of the students’ work by AEA
performers and Kean University students. The participating playwrights
will mentor the students to create an ideal model of a professional theatre
program in an institution of higher learning.
