Sweet Honey in the Rock to Create Sacred Space at Kean University
UNION, N.J. –Sweet Honey in the Rock is comprised
of six African-American female singers who join their powerful voices
in the sacred music of the black church. They will bring their unique
renditions of spirituals, hymns and Gospel, as well as jazz and blues,
to Wilkins Theatre at Kean University on Saturday, March 12, at 7:30 p.m.
Founded in 1973, the Grammy Award-winning Sweet Honey in the Rock has
recorded 18 albums, and was featured last year in a PBS documentary. Their
performances showcase beautiful a cappella harmonies backed by
hand-percussion instruments and blend lyrics, movement and narrative to
relate history, point the finger at injustice, encourage activism, and
sing the praises of love. Sweet Honey in the Rock will be accompanied
by an American-Sign Language interpreter.
Tickets are $25 for the general public; $21 for seniors; and $17 for
children. Call 908-737-SHOW (7469) for more information or to make reservations.
