Kean Affiliate Artists to Showcase Their Springtime Virtuosity Gala Event Celebrates the Arts at the School of Visual and Performing Arts

UNION, N.J. ––The conclusion of the 2004-2005 season of the Affiliate Artist Concert Series at Kean University will be celebrated with the Springtime Showcase Concert on Monday, April 11, at 8:30 p.m. in the Wilkins Theatre on the main campus at 1000 Morris Avenue in Union, N.J. Tickets are $10. The concert will be a gala event in which all 12 affiliate artists and Director Anthony Scelba will perform. It will be the capstone event in a showcase of the arts at Kean and its School of Visual and Performing Arts.

Each year, the Affiliate Artist Concert Series ends with a Springtime Showcase, a musical event with a special popular appeal. This year's concert is no exception. Beginning with an exciting Septet for Piano, Trumpet and Strings by Shostakovich and featuring multi Grammy-nominee Allison Brewster Franzetti, the program continues with the introduction of violist Brett Deubner and the new Duo Fresco ensemble he formed with guitarist Christopher Kenniff. The duo will perform Six Popular Songs by Manuel De Falla in their own new arrangement.

The first half of the concert will conclude with the introduction of cellist Julie Albers, just returned from a concert tour of Korea, performing Gregor Piatagorsky?s Variations on a Theme by Paganini. The concert?s second half begins with Naumberg Prize-winner Sharon Roffman, performing the famous Czardas (Gypsy Air) by Vittorio Monti. She will be followed with the introduction of clarinetist Carl Nielsen Competition-winner Alex Fiterstein performing the dazzling Rigoletto Fantasy by Luigi Bassi.

The concert will conclude with the world premiere of four movements from the West Side Story Suite arranged especially for the affiliate artists by Latin Grammy Award-winning composer and arranger Carlos Franzetti.
