Kean University's Premiere Stages Receives $20,000 Grant from the Dodge Foundation

UNION, N.J. - Premiere Stages' professional Actors' Equity Association (AEA) productions at Kean University have received a $20,000 grant from the Geraldine R. Dodge Foundation. The announcement was made in a letter dated July 1, addressed to John Wooten, artistic director for Premiere Stages at Kean University, and says that the foundation is "particularly pleased to see that Kean University has embraced the superb programs."

"Funding from the Geraldine R. Dodge Foundation will make it possible for emerging playwrights living in the greater metropolitan area to have their work developed at Premiere Stages through readings, workshops and fully staged productions," Wooten said. "In an era when revivals are the norm and new works are rarely performed, Dodge's commitment to original work is vital in ensuring new American dramatists are encouraged, nurtured and most importantly, produced."

As the professional AEA theatre-in-residence at Kean University since 2004, Premiere Stages is committed to serving the cultural needs of the campus community and the northern and central New Jersey regions through the production of premiere AEA productions, professional development and training programs, and the cultivation of emerging artists. Premiere Stages strives to be the model professional University program, actively engaging and enhancing the professional training programs at Kean University while embracing and serving a culturally diverse audience, children-at-risk and a broad pool of artists.

The Premiere Stages production, Owed to My First Love by Susan Barsky, opened to its world premiere on July 25 and has received rave reviews. The play is currently showing through July 31, at 8 p.m. Thursday through Saturday, with special matinees Wednesday and Sunday at 2 p.m. in Wilkins Theatre, 1000 Morris Avenue, Union, N.J. Tickets range from $15 to $25. To reserve tickets, please call the Wilkins Theatre Box Office at 908-737-SHOW (7469).
