FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Statewide New Jersey College Organization to Host UNION, N.J. -- The New Jersey Association of New Student Advocates (NJANSA) will host its inaugural First-Year Experience conference on Friday, October 5, at Kean University, located at 1000 Morris Avenue in Union, N.J. The conference entitled, The *First-Year Experience: Not Just a Course, will elaborate on topics affecting first-year college students including best practices in academic advising, career exploration, use of learning communities and peer mentoring. In attendance will be college and university administrators and faculty representing more than 20 New Jersey institutions of higher learning, including both two- and four-year public and private schools. Through this initiative, NJANSA hopes to provide its membership with a forum to share program ideas, research, teaching methods and curricular designs intended to assist students as they transition from high school to college. The statewide, one-day conference agenda will include welcome remarks from Kean University President Dawood Farahi; a keynote address given by James A. Anderson; Vice President for Student Success/Vice Provost for Institutional Assessment & Diversity at the University at Albany, N.Y., on the topic of assessment and retention, and 14 workshop sessions. Formally established in 2005, the New Jersey Association of New Student Advocates’ mission serves to promote and develop student success in higher education from various two-year and four-year institutions, both public and private, from areas of student and academic affairs. The chartering institutions are Bergen Community College, Bloomfield College, Caldwell College, Monmouth University, Kean University, Montclair State University, Seton Hall University, Saint Peter’s College and William Paterson University.
