Premiere Stages Presents HUMBUG in an Open-Caption Performance
Open captioning allows patrons to read dialogue during the performance
UNION, N.J. – Premiere Stages, the professional Actors’ Equity Association theatre-in-residence program at Kean University, is proud to present an open-caption performance of Humbug by John Wooten on Sunday, December 16, at 3 p.m. Open captioning benefits a growing number of people who have profound hearing loss and do not read American Sign Language or benefit fully from a listening-enhancement system.
Humbug is an uplifting adaptation of A Christmas Carol that promises to be the perfect family entertainment for the holiday season. Based on the story by Charles Dickens, the play is adapted by Wooten, producing artistic director of Premiere Stages, and features a cast of 13. As A Christmas Carol with a modern-day twist, Humbug follows the story of Eleanor Scrooge, a ruthlessly ambitious Wall Street executive who has an aversion to Christmas and an insatiable appetite for power. Locked in her office on a snowy Christmas Eve, Eleanor is determined to finish a corporate-takeover proposal until three “advisors” provide her with an eye-opening new appreciation for the holidays and the spirit of Christmas. An upbeat and moving adaptation of Dickens’ holiday classic, Humbug is one for the ages.
Additional performances of Humbug will run from Thursday, December 13 through Saturday, December 22 in the Kean University Wilkins Theatre located at 1000 Morris Avenue in Union, N.J. Tickets range from $15 to $25. To obtain specific show times, including special matinees for school groups, and to order tickets, please visit the Kean Stage Box Office online at www.keanstage.com or call 908-737-SHOW (7469).
