Oscar Nomination for War/Dance

Kean University Professor Susan MacLaury Served as Executive Producer

UNION, N.J. – Though many of us tune in to The Oscar awards each year to see who’s walking the red carpet, one Kean University professor will be watching the Oscars with special attention this year – from her seat in the audience.

Susan MacLaury of Montclair, N.J., professor in Kean’s Department of Physical Education, Recreation and Health, served as executive producer of War/Dance. The film tells the story of three children in the Ugandan war zone who found hope through music and dance. It is among the contenders for an Academy Award in the documentary feature category.

"We are so happy and excited that War/Dance has been acknowledged by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences,” said MacLaury. “The film reflects the triumph of the human spirit over adversity and was a labor of love for all of us involved,” MacLaury added. “We sincerely hope that the film contributes to the peace dialogue currently underway through the official talks in Juba."

MacLaury is executive director of Shine Global, Inc., a non-profit film production company dedicated to ending the exploitation and abuse of children worldwide through the production of films that raise social awareness. To learn more about Shine, visit HYPERLINK
