Premiere Stages at Kean University Announces its 2008 Season
UNION, N.J. – Premiere Stages at Kean University is proud to present a dynamic mix of new plays and New Jersey premieres. The season includes a new comedy, a Pulitzer-prize winning premiere, a world premiere holiday production, a staged reading of an evolving play, and musical productions and special initiatives for children and students.
The 2008 season opens with future president James Madison battling a divided delegation and a determined widow in his search for a more perfect union in the hilarious new comedy – Madison. In commemoration of Union’s Bicentennial event, Premiere Stages will collaborate with the Liberty Hall Museum as part of the production. Premiere Stages will hold an opening night pre-show reception for donors on July 17 on the grounds of Liberty Hall and a champagne toast with the cast following the performance. Liberty Hall will also offer tours and teas for patrons prior to performances. Patrons of the museum will receive $5.00 off each ticket to Madison with proof of entry and patrons of Premiere Stages will receive $5.00 off museum tours when they bring in a Premiere Stages ticket stub. Call 908-737-4092 for more information. Madison opens Thursday, July 17, in the Zella Fry Theatre and continues through Sunday, August 3.
Next up is the New Premiere of David Lindsay-Abaire’s Pulitzer-prize winning play, Rabbit Hole. The play charts a couple’s bittersweet search for the light of day after a life-shattering accident leaves them drifting perilously apart. A beautifully and thoroughly engrossing play, Rabbit Hole was hailed by the critics in New York. “A startling, heartfelt and potent new play.” – The Associated Press. The play opens Friday, September 5 in the Zella Fry Theatre and continues through Sunday, September 21.
Tickets for productions range from $15 to $25, and special group rates are also available. By purchasing a “Premiere Package,” patrons get ten dollars off both productions, plus free admission to the Staged Reading of The Big Tent (June 26-28), a darkly comic play about the no-holds-barred game of right wing politics that can only be waged and won under “The Big Tent”.
