Kean University Offers Workshop on Introduction to Accounting
UNION, N.J. – The Small Business Development Center of Kean University will present a workshop, Introduction to Accounting, on Wednesday, July 16, from 9 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. at PNC Bank, located at 202 Park Avenue in Plainfield, N.J. Ample parking is located behind the bank on West Second Street.
Conducted by Gregg Rood, of Accounting, Tax & Consulting Service in Westfield, N.J., this workshop will offer a basic understanding of accounting. Rood will discuss bookkeeping, accounting and financial reporting, financial GAAP reporting vs. tax reporting, and cash vs. accrual basis of accounting. He will also explain the pros and cons of service-based vs. product-based sales, as well as provide an overview of the income statement and/or statement of operations, balance sheets, and accounting software such as Quickbooks.
This workshop is one of six seminars included in the Summer 2008 Small Business Certificate Series. Held from July 9 to August 20 at PNC Bank, the series features weekly workshops for aspiring business owners on a wide range of business topics, such as developing entrepreneurial skills, financing a small business, buying an existing business or franchise, and public speaking. Participants who attend at least four of the workshops received certificates recognizing their achievements.
Co-sponsors of the series include PNC Bank, The Union County Business Resource Center, SCORE®, The Incubator One-Stop Service in Plainfield, N.J.; City of Plainfield, N.J.; Plainfield, N.J., Chamber of Commerce; UCEDC; the U.S. Small Business Administration; and the Union County Workforce Investment Board.
