Children’s Tea and Fashion Show at Liberty Hall Museum

UNION, NJ - Liberty Hall Museum at Kean University will host an afternoon tea and fashion show, The Girls of Liberty Hall, on Sunday, April 25, from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m., in the Carriage House.

The fashion show features reproductions of children's clothing dating back to colonial times through the early 20th century. Children will dress up, play games and earn prizes while learning how children’s fashion trends in America developed over the course of history.

“We want to spark the child’s curiosity and show firsthand how styles and trends adapted with the times,” said Susan Garino ’06, coordinator of historic structures and collections at Liberty Hall. “The next time kids go shopping, they’ll have a new appreciation for the clothes hanging on the racks.”

The tea and fashion show is recommended for parents and girls ages 4-14. Guests will be treated to a luncheon of scones, breads, finger sandwiches, sweet treats, lemonade, iced tea and sherbet punch on authentic china. Children are encouraged to bring their American Girl doll or any other favorite doll as their special guest. Cost is $24 per person. Reservations are required.

Liberty Hall Museum at Kean University chronicles more than 200 years of American history. Built in 1772 by William Livingston, New Jersey’s first elected governor, the Victorian style mansion is a treasure trove of historic riches. Along with forgotten letters from some of the nation’s founding fathers, such as George Washington and Thomas Jefferson, Liberty Hall also houses extensive collections of antique furniture, ceramics, textiles, toys and tools owned by seven generations of the Livingston and Kean families. The Firehouse is the latest addition to the Museum’s complex housing two antique fire engines and a collection of fire memorabilia.

Liberty Hall is located at 1003 Morris Avenue in Union, New Jersey. It is open to the public Monday through Saturday 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. For more information or to make reservations, call (908) 527-0400, e-mail or visit
