NJSBDC at Kean University Presents Workshop on Restructuring Debt for Small Businesses

The New Jersey Small Business Development Center at Kean University will present a free seminar, How to Restructure Your Debt and Stay in Business, on Friday, October 8, from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. in the PNC Bank Conference Room, located at 202 Park Avenue in Plainfield, N.J.

Charles Evans, director of business development for Corporate Turnaround in Paramus, N.J., will explain how to prevent mounting debt from putting a stranglehold on a company’s finances. He will discuss the debt restructuring process step by step, from establishing a budget to making the right offer at the right time, and identify which small businesses will benefit from the restructuring. In doing so, he will cover a host of topics, including deciding which creditors to restructure and which ones to leave out, calculating an affordable budget, determining each creditor’s monthly share of their budget (leverage), and proving hardship and why it matters. He will also discuss basic structure of how to make offers, how to counter offers, and how and when to resettle.

NJSBDC at Kean University Presents Workshop on Conducting Business with State of New Jersey

The New Jersey Small Business Development Center at Kean University will present a free seminar, How to Do Business with the State of New Jersey, on Tuesday, October 19, from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. in the Clark Public Library, Second Floor Board Room, located at 303 Westfield Avenue in Clark, N.J.

Patrick J. Guidotti, president of PJG Consulting in Robbinsville, N.J., and former director of the Small Business Office for the New Jersey Department of Commerce, will provide a complete understanding in qualifying for funding, and bidding on state contracts. He will cover a host of topics, including types of contracts, mandatory pre-bid meetings, set-aside contracts for small businesses, bid thresholds and receiving bid notices via email. He will also discuss bonding requirements, formal and informal bids, do’s and don’ts when preparing a bid, and opportunities with local government and boards of education.

NJSBDC at Kean University Presents Seminar on Powerful Marketing in Today’s Economy

The Small Business Development Center of Kean University will present a free seminar, Powerful Marketing in Today’s Economy, on Friday, October 22, from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. at Barnes & Noble BookSellers, located at 240 Rt. 22 West in Springfield, N.J.

Susan L. Jakers, president of Global Web Solutions in Avenel, N.J., will discuss a host of topics, including marketing proactively in a changing economy, various ways customers are locating products and services, different marketing methods required for different age groups and statistical information, including what people are looking for and not looking at. She will also cover videos as a selling tool, the difference between conventional advertising and a web site, and measuring and testing content, products, graphics and return on investment.
