Go to a pep rally, enjoy a concert, write for the student newspaper - there are many ways to immerse yourself in student life at Kean University. Student activities and campus life are important components of your university experience. After studying, going to classes and working on papers, you and your friends can gather in the University Center. Have a bite to eat in the pub, play a game of pool, relax in the TV lounge or participate in some of the more than 100 organizations on campus.

Fraternities and sororities and all of the clubs - service, academic, religious, international, cultural, political and recreational - invite you to become a member. Drop by - get acquainted; it's easy to make friends when you share similar interests.

On campus living can make a difference!
Whether you live in a two-bedroom apartment or the traditional freshman residence hall, living on campus can make a real difference in your college life. On campus living is easy, the learning is fun, and the friendships are forever. The residence life staff strives to give residents a safe, well-maintained and academically-oriented environment. Many opportunities are provided for personal growth and development through educational, social, recreational and cultural experiences.

Eligibility & Applying for on campus housing
On campus housing is available to full-time undergraduates. Students are assigned housing on a first-come, first-served basis. It is important to send in your housing request as soon as your receive your acceptance and enrollment instructions.

Freshmen Housing
Freshmen stay in traditional residence halls, which include two bedrooms and a bathroom. An apartment style setting is also available for freshman. This living arrangement includes a living room, and two bedrooms. A semi-kitchen area is also included in which a large size refrigerator and microwave unit is provided. Freshman living in the residence halls must purchase the meal plan.

Upperclassmen Housing
Upperclassmen live in apartments, which have two bedrooms, a living room and kitchen. They have the option of purchasing the meal plan. Meal cards can be used in all campus dining facilities and snack bars.
 
University Center
As the campus' community center, the University Center offers a variety of services. You can study in several different locations, relax, attend a meeting, type a paper, or surf the 'Net, test your skills at billiards or video games, tap a MAC (machine), send a fax, participate in a tournament, catch a theatre production or movie, enjoy a meal or grab a quick snack, buy your books or find out the latest information on special events.

The University Center is home to the three student governing organizations. Student Organization, Inc., the full-time undergraduate governing body, strives to enhance the scholastic, cultural and social environment on campus. It also funds approximately 30 clubs, special projects and programs in addition to special activities. the Council for Part-Time Students represents and provides programs and services for non-traditional undergraduate student. The Graduate Student Government Association, the voice and information source for the graduate student body, is also located in the University Center.

The Kean Counseling Center (KCC) is designed to assist students in the area of: psychological counseling; conflict mediation; gender support; alcohol and drug education; special student services, including international students and students with physical disabilities; and human relations training and interpersonal skills development. The Center provides numerous services and programs to assist students with issues of personal development, self-awareness, racial and cultural relations, and special student needs. Assistance is provided to students whose concerns are of a personal, cultural or emotional nature.

The Council for Part-Time Students, Inc.(CPTS) is the student government that represents the undergraduate part-time students at Kean University. acting as the liaison between the University and the part-time student body, CPTS addresses issues and concerns that impact on its constituency.

CPTS provides numerous services that benefit undergraduate part-time students as well as the entire school community. CPTS sponsors the Cultural Arts Programming Board, evening child care, scholarships, Alpha Sigma Lambda (the national honor society for part-time students), and student art gallery as well as other events and activities.

CPTS furnishes a fully staffed lounge geared for the evening student, which is located in Hutchinson Hall, Room 120. The staff is available to answer questions and provide information to students. The hours of the lounge are 4 p.m. to 8 p.m., Monday through Thursday.

All graduate students are invited to participate in the Graduate Student Government Association and attend the events they sponsor.

All students enrolled in graduate courses are eligible to attend meetings and participate in the council. Voting status requires that members attend three consecutive meetings.

The council makes a direct contribution to the quality of graduate life on campus through participation in University wide committees and the sponsorship of seminars, guest speakers, academic trips and performances. The Graduate Student Government Association sponsors an end-of-the-year social activity for graduate students. Each year the association presents the Graduate Teacher of the Year Award to honor an outstanding member of the faculty.
