The safety and security of our students is a top priority. Over the past several months, enhancements have been made to the University security infrastructure, and as we continue to move forward we require your assistance.

Kean University requires the full commitment of the campus community. Specifically, as a registered student of Kean University attending classes on the Union Campus, you must complete the following three items prior to Tuesday, October 3, 2017:

Academic Accordions:
Accordion Title:
1. Obtain a Kean University student ID card.
Accordion Body:

Kean Student ID cards allow for quick identification and allow everyone to know that you are a member of the campus community. Additionally, ID cards give you access to University facilities, such as the residence halls (for resident students), computer labs and fitness centers as well as free or discounted admission to campus events, such as home athletic games, parties and cultural events.

Accordion Title:
2. Obtain a Parking Decal or opt-out of a Parking Decal if you do not bring a vehicle to Kean.
Accordion Body:

To comply with the Campus Safety Checklist, all students must either register for a Parking Decal or opt-out of parking. Parking Decals allow the Kean University Department of Public Safety and Police to quickly identify your vehicle and let them know that your vehicle should be parked in University parking lots. The Department of Public Safety and Police enforces the University’s Parking Policies, and unregistered student vehicles and vehicles of non-Kean patrons utilizing the Union Train Station will be ticketed. In the event that your vehicle information changes, you may always go back to the system and update your information. If you do not utilize a personal vehicle on campus, you MUST indicate this by opting-out of a Parking Decal. In the event that your vehicle information changes, you may always go back to the system and update your information.

Accordion Title:
3. Register for Campus Alert Notifications using your @kean.edu email address as your username.
Accordion Body:

In the event of an emergency or unexpected University closing, Kean University will communicate with the entire campus community utilizing the Campus Alert System. Although setting up SMS text message notifications is highly encouraged and is the preferred method of communication, students have the option to select their communication preferences and may also opt to be contacted by automated phone calls or emails on non-Kean accounts. More than one method can be selected so that you receive the emergency information you need timely.

To register for Campus Alert or update your Campus Alert settings to utilize your @Kean.edu email address as your username, please click here.

Due to the importance of these items, students who do not complete the above three items by Tuesday, October 3, 2017 will not be eligible for Winter or Spring 2018 course registration until the tasks are completed.

To help students comply with this mandatory policy, the University will set up temporary Student ID and Parking Decal/Opt-out kiosks at different locations and at various events on campus in September (click here to see the list). However, to avoid lines and delays and ensure registration eligibility, students are encouraged to complete these tasks as soon a possible before the October 3 deadline.

CHECK YOUR COMPLETION STATUS

If you are unsure if you have completed the three required items, or if you just want to confirm that your records are correct, students can check their completion status in KeanWISE, by completing the following steps:

  1. Go to KeanWISE.
  2. Login using your KeanWISE username and your KeanWISE password.
  3. Enter the "Students" menu page.
  4. Within the "Communication" section, select "Campus Safety Checklist".
  5. View your completion status and click the links to complete any outstanding items.

If you have recently completed one of the three required items, please allow two business days for KeanWISE to be updated. If you have allowed enough time for the system to update and believe there is an error on your completion status, please contact the Involvement Center, located in Miron Student Center, Room 303, by calling 908-737-5270 or email safetychecklist@kean.edu

Q: I registered for Campus Alert with my personal email address. What do I need to do?
A: To comply with the Kean Campus Safety Checklist, you must register for Campus Alert with your @kean.edu email address. If you used any email address other than your @kean.edu email address to register (including your @exchange.kean.edu email address), you must login to the Campus Alert system to update your account and change your username to your @kean.edu email address. A: University Police strongly encourage all Campus Alert users to use the text message / SMS option. However, if that option is not convenient for you, you may elect to be notified by email or phone. You can also choose to be notified by all three methods or any combination of the available notification methods.

Q: I may have to drive a car to campus once in a while. Do I need a Parking Decal?
A: Yes, if you plan to park a car on campus this semester, you must request a Parking Decal. If you park a car on campus without a Parking Decal, you may get a ticket.

Q: My family has a few cars, and I may bring any one of them to campus. What do I do?
A: You should register all vehicles that you may bring to campus for a Parking Decal.

Q: Can I register for Winter 2018 or Spring 2018 sessions if I haven't completed the Campus Safety Checklist?
