Dr. Kenneth J. Dollarhide Dean Dollarhide took the helm of the College of Humanities and Social Sciences in 2005, after having served as dean of Arts and Humanities at Richard Stockton College in Pomona, N.J. since 1997. At Stockton, he implemented a number of initiatives, including a new Romance Languages program and a foreign-exchange program in conjunction with a Japanese university. Prior to that, he was head of the Department of Foreign Languages and Literatures and a professor of Japanese-language courses at Oklahoma State University. Having served that institution since 1977, he also was the first coordinator of a landmark Native American studies program there. With several new degree programs on the horizon for the College of Humanities and Social Sciences, Dollarhide's years of administrative experience will serve the institution well. Dollarhide has a personal history as interesting as his academic and administrative background. Of Native American Lakota heritage, he was born on the Pine Ridge Indian Reservation, S.D., and lived there for the first 18 years of his life. His area of academic expertise is in religious studies. He earned a Master of Arts from Indiana University and a Ph.D. from McMaster University in Canada, specializing in Buddhism. Though he focused on religion as a student, he has since researched, lectured on and taught a wide variety of other subjects, such as foreign languages, gender studies and philosophy. His diverse academic background supports the broad range of disciplines covered in the College.
