Kean University has an articulation agreement with
The New York College
of Podiatric Medicine (NYCPM) that enables Kean students to earn
a BA degree from Kean and a DPM degree from NYCPM in seven years rather
than eight. NYCPM reserves five seats each year for Kean students.
Requirements
Students complete their first three years at Kean University. After
you have accumulated at least 90 credits, and have fulfilled certain
requirements, you are eligible to apply to NYCPM.
In order to apply to NYCPM, you need to complete the following courses
satisfactorily (i.e., grade of B or better):
- 1 year of Biology, with lab
- 1 year of General Chemistry, with lab
- 1 year of Organic Chemistry, with lab
- 1 year of Physics, with lab
- 1 year of English
Other requirements for admission include:
- GPA of 3.0 or better
- a strong letter of recommendation from the
PreMedical/PreDental Advisory Committee
- satisfactory performance on the MCAT
- satisfactory performance on the TOEFL, if appropriate
- a timely, satisfactory formal application
- satisfactory evaluation in a formal interview
How It Works
You apply to NYCPM in your junior year at Kean. Instead of completing your
senior year at Kean, you matriculate at the NYCPM. You receive transfer
credits for your first year of courses at NYCPM, which include:
- Biochemistry (6 credits)
- Bacteriology with lab (4 credits)
- Cell Biology and Histology with lab (6 credits)
- Physiology with lab (8 credits)
- Immunology (3 credits)
- Neuroscience with lab (4 credits)
- General Anatomy with lab (7 credits)
Of course, transfer credit depends on a grade of C or better.
At the end of your fourth year at NYCPM, you receive the degree of DPM
(Doctor of Podiatric Medicine).
