My approach to language learning is, in part, based on the list
below. Language learners need coaches who will work with them
to:
determine current level
identify strengths and weaknesses
set goals for advancement
find strategies and activities to support those goals.
Top 10 (or so)
strategies to remember when learning
English as a Second
Language
Make learning centered, directed and controlled by you
Use authentic materials and settings
Read and listen slightly above your current
level
Be confident, motivated and invested
Use language naturally
Practice outside of class
or work sessions.
Keep in mind that you will always understand
more than you can produce.
Remember learning English is sometimes very
individual
Be patient - Language learning takes time.
Take risks !!!! Mistakes help you advance your
skills.
Read aloud -
your ear and your brain will hear and capture good English
Corrective feedback (someone telling you what you are
doing wrong) is important, but you must act on it to master the
correct pattern.
Monitoring is catching yourself doing something
wrong, or right!
