Barbara J. Lecomte, Ph.D.
Barbara Lecomte, Ph.D. CCC/SLP received her doctorate
from New York University in 1983 where her dissertation
looked at children with developmental disorders at preschool
age. She serves as Coordinator of the Undergraduate Program
in Speech-Language-Hearing Sciences.
Prior to coming to Kean, I held the position of speech-language
specialist in the public school setting. I also have worked
part time at Children's Specialized Hospital serving preschool
children with communication disorders. Over the years I have served as
consultant/invited speaker to public schools and educational service commissions throughout the state. In the early years of my career I also
served as adjunct faculty position in Speech Pathology at Douglass College.
My teaching responsibilities at Kean include courses for undergraduate students in
teacher of the hearing impaired and speech language hearing sciences. I teach phonetics,
developmental phonology and disorders of articulation and voice. My pre-professional
courses include: Clinical Professional Issues and the Capstone course, Pre-Professional
Speech-Language Pathology/Audiology: Preparing for a Career, two exciting courses for
the undergraduate student preparing for graduate school and a career in SLP.
I have presented over 60 workshops for SLPs usually in the school setting, and written
more than 20 articles in refereed and non-refereed journals on a variety of topics. A
pamphlet, Aphasia: What is It? (Speech Bin, 1995).
A coordinator I serve the advisement needs of undergraduate students planning to enter
the program of Speech-Language-Hearing Sciences.
