For most of the 1430 student, second language learner, it is difficult to express in a dissimilar language different of their own. But it is more difficult to write it. And the feelings of no being able to write a good essay for your discipline course or even to occupation are even worst. But To achieve good writing in 1430 it is a time-consuming practice that it is getting harder every semester. The idea of moving to learn a new language it is fascinated accompanied with frustration and a lot of time. But for the 1430 student there are some criteria that might be helpful for them to fallow in order to achieve the good academic writing. It is experiences every day for most second language student that not getting their point across on their essay is the major problem, the differences on the new language to explore, the different grammar and way of learning it, 1430 student need information from good sources, be positive and get help from your school or professors.
The most important thing at the moment to write is to get your point across and this means to arrange your ideas so your essay can flow. Write down even if you think that the grammar isn’t working don’t worry just put pen to paper down anything about the topic and then worry about the rest afterward. The second language student have to think on our native language an then write it down on the second language in order to get our point across and that is a very bad habit because we are never going to get to think and get our point across on the second language; why? Because the language different way of writing and organizing ideas. Also to get your point across, organization is a very way of doing it.
A new culture to explore which at the moment of write the student has to have an opened mind for this new stage of its life. The culture in a second language is a new experience to write about and the most students bring their culture into the new language so that makes the culture a diversity of ideas, but be careful because every culture needs to be to keep their own authenticity.
The grammar is the number one concern because we used it on every paper but we don’t used correctly in the second language (something not even on L1) But the English grammar is pretty simple compare to Spanish grammar but in English I think the hard to write because what you are thinking in your head it is not what you are writing down its mean the sound of the words in not the same as you write. But in Spanish we write as we speak. But there this is what I been doing to archive a better grammar I watch children programs, when a heard a new word I try to spell it right and then look it up in the dictionary and check my errors after I’m done with my essay. But according to Center for Independent Language Learning to improve your grammar the person just have to be aware of you weakness in grammar they say that you can’t improve unless you know what you are not good at. They also say that reading out loud the piece of paper can lead you to grammar errors. An interview with a second language learner who first language is English, said that good ideas are more important than have a good grammar. The grammar comes alone as you keep writing in the new language. But it is necessary to have a good grammar too.
Have good sources in academic essays is it difficult. But if you know have to do research and find trusted sources the paper is going to get better. A look to a paper from a student of 1430 and she show which source to trust and which aren’t too helpful. In Erika’s essay she describes the best way of finding good information. She recommends to read carefully to TILT module 2 where they shows how to find the best sources for your academic paper.
A little help from other is always a good because whatever you don’t see in your paper the next person will. So ask your professor as many times is possible for any question about your paper. Also at Kean University there is a lot of tutoring assistant and academic support; for students who are struggling in writing, reading or confuse about getting their paper to flow. They said their mission is to offer help on the subject more often requested, subject that for 1430 student will be English.
