The College of Natural, Applied and Health
Sciences invites qualified majors in Biology, and Chemistry to apply
for the Merck/AAAS Undergraduate Science Research Program.
The purpose of this program is to promote interdisciplinary research
at the interface of chemistry and biology. Students will work with faculty
members from Biology, Chemistry-Physics and the New Jersey Center for
Science, Technology and Mathematics Education on summer research projects.
The successful applicant must dedicate a substantial portion of summer
2009 on a full-time basis to the project assigned.
The program will begin on or about June 15, 2009
and last 6 to 8 weeks. The summer stipend is $3,000. An additional $1,000
shall be awarded contingent on a presentation of results at a regional
or national meeting and completion of a post-research award assessment
survey. Applications are available from Dean J. Toney’s Office,
B-104.
Requirements:
-Biology majors who have completed GOP and Cell Biology,
-Chemistry majors who have completed Organic Chemistry I lecture/Laboratory
or STME majors
who have completed Chemical Systems and Livings Systems
or candidates nominated by faculty
research mentors
- Overall GPA of 2.50 and a major course GPA of 3.00
- Willingness to devote substantial time to the research endeavor
- Interview by research faculty mentor of project of choice
- Submission of application form and pre-research award assessment survey
by April 15, 2009
