Dr.
Juan Gilbert

On Monday, October 5th, 2009 the Department of Computer
Science & Kean University's ACM club hosted
Dr. Juan Gilbert, ACM Distinguished Lecturer, who
gave a presentation in Kean Hall.
Dr. Juan Gilbert, Chair of the Human Centered Computing Division in
the School of Computing and Director of the Human Centered Computing
Lab, at Clemson University presented a lecture entitled Applications
Quest: Computing Diversity for College Admissions. He spoke on

Quest allows the use of race/ethnicity, gender or any other attributes
to be considered in admissions, school assignments, employee hiring
or any other application processing area, without giving preferences
to a given race or gender. Dr. Gilbert’s talk was attended by
more than one hundred members of the Kean University community, including
faculty, students, and interested staff.
During his visit to Kean University, Dr. Gilbert
met with Dr. Jeffrey Toney, Dean CNAHS, and also met with Ms. Wendy
Diaz, Director of Kean University’s Ronald E. McNair Program.
Dr. Gilbert had the opportunity for informal discussions with McNair
students, and they enjoyed hearing his suggestions for their research
and ideas for their future graduate applications.
