NEWS ITEM:
     November 5 , 2008 - Dr. Daniela Shebitz Gave Lecture November 5th on Evaluating the Plant Diversity of Union County Parks as part of the Biology Seminar Series 2008-2009.


On November 5th in the Ruth Horowitz Lecture Hall in Hennings Hall was filled with students and faculty, as part of the Biology Department Seminar Series for 2008-2009. Dr. Daniela Shebitz discucssed her work in evaluating the plant diversity of Union County Parks. Her research focuses on the influence of invasive plant species on local biodiversity. She presented three current research projects, each of which is being conducted with the help of undergradute students in the Biology Department:
1. Evaluating ecological integrity of 70 year old forest stands planted by the Civilian Conservation Corps in Watchung Reservation
2. Ecological indicators in the Elizabeth River Corridor
3. Assessing the effectivenss of invasive species management methods in Union County Parks.

There are two more lectures scheduled to be held this semester and six additional during the upcoming Spring 2009 semester. The talks are designed primarily for Biology students and faculty although anyone is welcome to attend.
