NEWS ITEM:    October 22, 2008 - Life Science Annual Industry Forecast: Life Sciences in the US and EU Challenges & Opportunities (see report below slideshow)



The New Jersey Technology Council met on Wednesday, October 22 in Kean Hall to discuss biomarkers and diagnostics and a forecast for the Life Sciences Industry. The biomarkers and diagnostics portion was kicked off by Prof. Eric Hayat from the Department of Biological Sciences. A total of six speakers presented between NJTC in the US and scientists at the University of the West of England via videoconference. There are a number of exciting opportunities between NJTC, Kean University and scientists in the UK to explore the use of biomarkers in the diagnosis of disease.

The Life Sciences Forecast portion was begun by an address from President Farahi. Survey results from US and UK respondents were summarized by Dean Toney. A total of 52 business leaders in the life scienes industry attended the event, including seven Chief Executive Officers. There was a lively discussion about the prospects for this industry in our region and a general consensus that the future is bright despite worldwide economic challenges.
