ABOUT: Mission / Vision

The mission of the College of Natural, Applied and Health Sciences, consistent with the overall mission of the University, is to achieve academic excellence by providing outstanding instruction in the fields of Biology, Chemistry, Computer Science, Earth Science, Information Technology, Mathematical Sciences, Nursing, and Sustainability. The educational mission of the College is threefold:
  1. to offer a current, comprehensive, and diverse curriculum -- in both undergraduate and graduate education -- that integrates the fundamental principles of specific fields, advanced technologies, and interdisciplinary learning to facilitate the students’ acquisition of pertinent understanding, skills, and disposition needed to succeed in the future;
  2. to provide a student-centered and intellectually stimulating environment that promotes knowledge discovery and fosters life-long learning; and
  3. to develop a new generation of professionals and leaders who are dedicated to achieving the highest standards and principles in their respective fields of study.
The research mission of the College is twofold:
  1. to recruit and retain the best and brightest faculty who actively engage in scientific inquiry to advance the knowledge base in their respective disciplines; and
  2. to encourage and support the scholarly pursuits and professional activities of both the faculty and students.

The vision of the College of Natural, Applied and Health Science is fivefold:
  1. to have all program assessment cycle implemented and to establish a data-driven decision making process for resource allocation and curriculum updates;
  2. to be the college of choice for students who seek a world-class education in sciences, technology, and health care professions;
  3. to be recognized for excellence in both undergraduate and graduate research;
  4. to exert positive impacts on the world through professional contributions at the local, national, and global levels from alumni, faculty, and students; and
  5. to establish additional centers of excellence in education and research.
