General FAQs
Q.1 How do I access the BB CE8System? open/hide
You can clik on "Log into myBlackboard CE8" at the upper right hand corner of this page.
The direct link to the website is:
http://blackboard.kean.edu. Instructors and Students alike
will need to use their Kean KEANGoogleMail userID and Password to login.
Q.2 Why do we have 3 different WebCT servers running? open/hide
WebCT 4.1 is our legacy WebCT system which is reaching to the end of its lifecycle. We decided to move on to the newer platforms of WebCT.
Since the transition from WebCT 4.1 to CE6 or CE8 was complicated at the administration level, we decided to run a Pilot/Test program
for WebCT/Blackboard CE6 system. Now we have the production system (BlackBoard CE8) ready, we are no longer using the Pilot/Test environment to host live classes. Only demo and training courses for Instructors will be held to WebCT CE6 system from now on. WebCT 4.1 will be decomissioned after Summer II 2009
and we will be left with the Blackboard CE8 as our live, production server; and CE6 system as our sandbox/test environment.
Q.3 I do not know my Kean Email ID/Password. What should I do? open/hide
If you do not know your Kean KEANGoogleMail ID or Password, please visit Office of Computer and Information Services (OCIS) Helpdesk, located at CSS-113 to retrive your KEANGoogleMail userID and password. OCIS Helpdesk can be reached via phone at 908-737-6000 M-F 8:30 AM - 10:30 PM. KEANGoogleMail userID and initial password is mailed via standard post to Newly admitted students or newly appointed faculty/staff's home address on file.
Q.4 I forgot my password. What should I do? open/hide
If you have forgotten your Kean KEANGoogleMail Password, please visit Office of Computer and Information Services (OCIS) Helpdesk, located at CSS-113 to reset your KEANGoogleMail password. OCIS Helpdesk can be reached via phone at 908-737-6000 M-F 8:30 AM - 10:30 PM.
Q.5 Why I am getting a Java Error? open/hide
As soon as you login to Blackboard CE8 or CE6 system, it checks for a specific version of Java in your computer. For proper functionality, Blackboard heavily
depends on this specific version of Java (JRE 1.4.0.5 - 1.6.0). Until you prepare your pc with the correct verison of Java, you will keep getting this error
message. Please refer to the steps on
Home page to fix your Java.
Q.6 Why I am getting a Browser Incompatibility Error? open/hide
Blackboard tests their products on a handful of browsers and certifies which version of what browser is compatible with BlackBoard software systems. There
are certain browsers out there that do not meet the requirements for BlackBoard CE8/CE6 suites. As soon as you login, BlackBoard CE8/CE6 system checks
for browser compatibility and if the browser is detected incompatible, an error message is generated. Please use the certified browsers to avoid such situation.

Q.7 How do I change my BlackBoard CE8/CE6 password? open/hide
BlackBoard CE8/CE6 is an integrated system which relies on your Kean KEANGoogleMail ID and passwrod for authentication. So you dont have a separate password for
these systems. Changing your Kean KEANGoogleMail password means you will have to use the updated password to get in to BlackBoard CE6/CE8.
Q.8 How do I change my WebCT 4.1 password? open/hide
WebCT 4.1 is a standalone system and maintains its own userID and password database. To change your password, login to WebCT 4.1, Click on the upper left corner
it says "Password Settings" to change your password.
If you do not know your password, please fill out the appropriate support request form.
Instructors FAQs
Q.1 I do not see my classes listed. What should I do? open/hide
BlackBoard CE8 is fully integrated with the Datatel Colleague system that holds the registration information. As long as you are listed as the instructor
for a particular section in the registration system, your course will automatically populate in BlackBoard CE8. In other words, if you are listed as the instructor for a particular section, you will be enrolled as an Instructor/Designer in BlackBoard CE8 system as well.
If you do not see your course in BlackBoard, check your KeanWISE and verify with the Registrar's Office (Administration 1st Floor, 908-737-3290)to make sure
that the system has you listed as the instructor for the section, rather than having a generic "Staff" assignment.
Q.2 My classes are listed, but access is being denied. Why? open/hide
This may happen for two reasons: 1) Due to course load assignment from the registrar 2) You have been reassigned a different course and removed from this one.
If you are assigned for a course, (you should see the assignment in your KeanWISE) and still denied access, please fill out the
Faculty Support Form to resolve the issue.
Q.3 Some of my students are not appearing in my BlackBoard CE8 Roster. Why?open/hide
BlackBoard CE8 is fully integrated with the Datatel Colleague system that holds the registration information. As long as the students are registered for your
course, they will be enrolled in BlackBoard CE8 system as well. First, Please verify you can see them enrolled in you KeanWISE roster. If they appear in KeanWISE but are not enrolled in your BlackBoard CE8 course, please have them fill out the
Student Support Form.
Q.4 Some students appears in my BlackBoard CE8 course roster after dropping out. Why?

Dropped students are not removed by default, rather than the dropped students are denied access. You will see a red cross

appearing by the name of the student. Students with denied access will not appear in the Grade Book. You can unenroll the students with denied
access by selecting them and clicking unenroll from your class roster, but it is not a recommend process.
Q.5 How can I migrate course content from WebCT4.1 system?

You can do it by yourself. Please refer to the
Course Migration Guide. The whole
process is described in Chapter 3 of this guide.
Or, you can submit a request to us by using a
Request for a new course form. Please make sure you fill
out the "For Previous Courses" section.
Q.6 How can I migrate course content from a previous course within CE8 system?

If you have other existing courses on BlackBoard CE8 system, you can import contents from those courses to any new course shell of yours. Please follow the
direction provided under Resource tab, under documentation, or
click here for the instructions.
Q.7 I need training to use the system. How can I get training?

Instructors should sign up for the Online Self Paced Training Course by sending an email to webct@kean.edu from your KEANGoogle email account. Make sure to put "
Training Course Sign Up" on the subject line.
Some workshops will be held throughout the semester to help faculty with hands on experience. Please visit the
Workshops tab to see the workshop calendar and register for workshops. No workshops or training are offered for the WebCT 4.1 System.
Q.8 Why some students are not appearing in my WebCT 4.1 course?

Unlike BlackBoard CE8, WebCT 4.1 is not fully integrated and there are no plans for integration for this system. Students who register late may not be enrolled properly. Please have those students fill out the
Student Support Request form.
Student FAQs
Q.1 Do I need to use my Kean Student ID anymore? open/hide
All users must use their KEANGoogleMail userID and password to login to the BlackBoard CE8 system. For WebCT4.1 system, the login policy will remain unchanged.
Students will continue loggin in using their Kean Student ID and generic password (Last name with first letter capitalized) and Faculty will continue using their
WebCT 4.1 userID and password. You will still need to keep your Student ID handy while filling out support forms.
Q.2 I do not see my course when I login. Why is so? open/hide
BlackBoard CE8 system is fully integrated with the registration system. If you are registered for a class, that will show up in your BlackBoard CE8 profile. However, if your class is hosted on WebCT 4.1 environment, which is not integrated, you may not see some course listed when you login if you register late. Please fill out the
Student Support Form to get assistance.
Q.3 I see my class in CE8, but my access is being denied. What can I do? open/hide
This means you either dropped your course, or most likely the instructor has blocked your access. Please consult with your instructor first to resolve the issue.
