Campus Edition 6 (CE6)
Current version of WebCT in use (CE 4.1) at Kean is reaching its end of life cycle soon. Strategical decisions have been made in favor of transitioning to Blackboard Campus Edition 6. As a part of this long transition plan, we are running a pilot environment of Campus Edition 6 and courses are being offered on this system since Spring 2008. Initially the opportunity was released to only some selective instructors
Now we are ready to offer more courses on this pilot environment
Timeline for transition
Summer 2008 - Fall 2008
- The Campus Edition 6 System is up and running, offering courses over the Summer and Fall 2008 semesters in parallel with existing WebCT 4.1 system
Fall 2008
- Instructors are required to get familiarized with the CE6 system by Fall 2008. Training and Tutorials are available in Training section. Also, phasing out of the current WebCT 4.1 system begins
Spring 2009
- From Spring 2009 the new Campus Edition 6 System will enter in full production
- Decommissioning of current WebCT 4.1 system will be completed in January 2009. No courses will be offered on the current WebCT 4.1 system from Spring 2009 and onwards
Offering courses on Campus Edition 6
Its simple - just fill out the same new/renew course request form that you would fill up for regular WebCT course request
Content migration
Content migration en masse from WebCT 4.1 to CE6 will not be an automated or guaranteed service. Instructors are expected to move contents from the old system to the new system. Instructors will have access to a do-it-yourself reference guide to perform the task. Additional support can be arranged by appointment
Content migration is never perfect on CMS migration with such massive version differences. Breaking of structures, formats, hidden logical errors may be common, and sometimes depending on the amount and complexity of course contents, it may not even be cost effective to migrate courses from one system to another
Instructors will have about two semesters to move contents or re-create courses on the new system. Therefore we strongly urge instructors to take the opportunity to use and get familiarized with the system ahead of time. A demo course on CE6 system can be obtained by simply sending an email to: webct@kean.edu
Cross Listing of courses
Course cross listing is not supported with the CE 6 system at this moment. Work is under progress and the feature will be available from Spring 2008
Support
For support, you will still need to fill out the Faculty support form. In person support will be available by appointment through Computer Services Main Desk (x76000)
We will provide online, self paced training for your convenience. Please check back later for more update on this
