EEO/EOF Program Overview
The Exceptional Educational Opportunities (EEO/EOF) Program of Kean University is an academic program designed to provide access to higher education for New Jersey residents who demonstrate academic potential and a high level of motivation to achieve a college degree. The Program facilitates student achievement by providing a range of comprehensive, supportive services to help students meet the challenges of the University, through a Six-Week Summer Academy. The EEO/EOF Program expects students to develop their intellectual abilities, to appreciate their social and citizen responsibilities, and to intellectually, socially and professionally prepare to interact with society, and make a contribution to the world of work. Through the Six-Week Summer Academy students will engage in various workshops and studio time in writing and mathematics to enhance these abilities. Through these specialized units, EEO/EOF employs strategies, promotes activities, and offers services which seek to assist students in creating and fully developing a personal learning system. A series of workshops are held during the Summer Academy to begin the transition and relationships with the Academic Advisors/Counselors and to begin understanding the policies and procedures of the University. Counseling then continues in the academic year in conjunction with academic level programming which will ensure scholarly, cultural and behavioral development. Students are also assisted in conceptualizing competence and excellence in writing and mathematics through the Writing Studio and Mathematical coursework supplementation. In combination with the Academic Coaching Center and the Counselor workshops, students will reinforce and enhance their skills and abilities through the methods of discovery and evaluation, acquisition, growth, and the application of knowledge. Finally, the Program seeks to empower students in the affective and behavioral domain, to help them develop an increased understanding of self, as well as an appreciation for the culture of others and to prepare the student for the workforce. Through our Career and Internship programs during the academic year students’ will have the opportunity to begin the process of gaining field experience. This comprehensive support and instruction prepare students to compete in the workforce.
