1. What is the Gateway Institute?
The Gateway Institute for Regional Development is an interactive arm of Kean University devoted to the economic, social, cultural and educational development of communities. The Institute is the nexus between the University internal resources and external partners. The Institute is actively engaged in providing a range of services that include applied research, economic analyses, business surveys, community and policy planning, and specialized training geared at utilizing faculty, students, and staff expertise to marshal collaborations with neighboring communities, organizations, and government.

4. What does Gateway do?
The Gateway Institute is actively engaged in applied research and policy planning for selected communities in this region. We work in partnership with municipal and county governments, as well as other educational institutions to fulfill our mission as a functional partner in advancing regional development.

We are located in Union, New Jersey on the East Campus of Kean University.

6. Do you just work with municipalities?
No, we work with any group that shares our vision for making a positive contribution to our State and region. Some of our non-municipal partners include Catholic Community Services, Elizabeth Development Corporation, and The Girls and Boys, Clubs of Union County.

7. How are you funded?
The University, grants, and fee for services fund us. With these resources, we are able to pursue implementation of numerous projects.
8. How can we form a partnership with Gateway Institute?
We can be reached by telephone, mail or e-mail. Once an organization decides that they would like to collaborate with Gateway, scheduling an appoint with any of our staff members is a pivotal step in program implementation.

Yes, we conduct an array of workshops, meetings, and conferences. Our facilities provide a neutral setting for a range of issues to be discussed.
